The Department of Geography offers several graduate degree options: 

  • Geography Master's of Science and Geography Master's of Arts are academic degrees that allow close collaboration with an advisor on research, resulting in a thesis.
  • Master's of Science in GIS (MSGIS) is a professional degree that focuses on coursework and building a portfolio that showcases GIS skills.
  • The Geography Ph.D. emphasizes original research under the guidance of an advisor, and contributions to a field of study through a dissertation. An academic Master’s degree is required for admission to the Ph.D. program.
